Looking out on Cincinnati and the rusty Ohio It’s gonna be a grey and dreary day Winter’s tears fall on the city, as I watch the river flow How can summer feel so far away? And the weather man got it wrong again Another wasted snow day in the rain…. By the time it gets to February, everybody is feeling blue No-one even wants to go outside Maybe if it snowed - even just a little, like it is supposed to do Perhaps we’d learn to ski instead of hide Now, the sun is shining, 65 degrees But tonight, they say, we’re gonna have a freeze.… It won’t be long before the summer - sticky, hot humidity AC trying hard to keep us cool Just one step outside and sweat is running down between my shoulder blades You wish you had the money for a pool And as the fan goes round and round above your bed You almost wish it could be winter now, instead….

Soldier Boy 04:34
Soldier Boy, why did you go when battle’s bugle called you? If you’d stayed you would have paid far less that what they made you You went away one fine day, a young man to be proud of To country far and to a war in places never heard of. Soldier Boy, why did you go off to those distant borders You try survive, just stay alive, obeying someone’s orders For that land, you made a stand - knowing in your conscience That one more life, one more sacrifice, would make no earthly difference. CH: It’s nothing new we’ve always been this way (played this game) before We give them all we have then send them off to war Words like love and peace weigh heavy on my mind But in reality, we’ve left them far behind….. Soldier Boy, why did you die, they say you’re not returning My eyes are red from tears I’ve shed, my heart is sore from yearning Now you’re gone, this world goes on and it’s not getting better We hurt, we lie, we crucify like hell’s infernal debtor. Soldier Boy, your smile is gone, your memory still lingers I often find you on my mind, just slipping through my fingers Maybe when we meet again in some eternal glory Then I’ll know why you had to go and the reason for this story. CH: Soldier Boy, I miss you so, I miss your joy, your laughter They try to get me to forget the memories I run after I often wish I could forget, confuse you for another Though life is cheap, the hurt runs deep, and I’ll always miss you, brother….

Guns or needles, bright young people should not end up dead Doctor Freud loved opioids - but, how we’ve been misled? Alcohol now protocol but it goes right to my head I think I’d better spend my day in bed… Could it be reality’s not something I can face? I live and breathe in make believe to survive this human race These bitter tears of doubt I fear will bring death’s cold embrace Whatever happened to Amazing Grace?… CH: Coz all I know is what I know and what I know is this I can live in ignorance coz ignorance is bliss If I choose to sing the blues would I be remiss When I have to think we’re worth much more than this…. Now, misery loves company but three can be a crowd Honesty’s the policy that makes the world go round Friends in need are friends indeed until they bring you down…. CH: Coz all I know is what I know and what I know is this I can live in ignorance coz ignorance is bliss If I choose to sing the blues would I be remiss When I have to think we’re worth much more than this…. I have to think there’s more to life than this Please tell me that we’re worth much more than this….

Refrain: Looking for freedom, looking for open spaces Looking for the rainbow’s end, looking for smiling faces Living on moonbeams, living for sweet dreams I won’t let reality get me down There is peace and there is sunshine, there is music in the air There are people singing, people dancing, people everywhere The hills alive with the happy sounds as the rivers gently flow In the clean, fresh air of the Underberg you can come and take it slow… People come from far and wide, from all around the world There is laughter, joy and happiness for every boy and girl There are hippies, there are yuppies from Gauteng to The Bay From Cape Town up to Swaziland they’ll come to get away… The autumn winds blow chilly cold as we huddle round the fire A mile above the Indian Ocean there’s no need to get much higher Look up at the night sky and you’re in the Milky Way Talk the night through with old friends and find a brand new day… Come and see our high cathedrals, come and see our sun Come and see majestic eagles in this place where eland run Come and find your sisters, brothers, come and find your way If you listen to the magic music you’ll always want to stay….

There’s a man at the bar, nursing a jar Of beer that’s already half done He stares at the wall, he waits for a call That he knows, probably, will not come He thinks of a time when his life was all fine The sun shone on every day Now there’s nothing to lose but this bottle of booze And someone who promised to stay…. Well, he drinks and he waits ‘cause each evening at eight There’s a songwriter comes in to sing The stories aren’t new and the tales aren’t all true Yet they fill him with hope once again Ah, the sweet melodies touch a chord, don’t you see That can help a man through a bad day Melancholy and blue perhaps the singer once knew Someone who promised to stay…. A toast to the future, a toast to the past And another to help you forget Love lasts forever and life is a blast So they say it just hasn’t happened yet! Now it’s just after ten, the bar is quiet again The waitress can take a short break She flirts with the man with his dreams in a can Because talking can ease the heartache Then she’s off to do chores as he orders one more To the songwriter’s sweet serenade But she’s hiding her eyes ‘cause this song makes her cry It’s about someone who promised to stay…

I want to tell a story about Sweet Mary Jane Since the day I met her I have never been the same She fills my heart with loving and things I can’t explain She helps me see what’s hidden in the sunshine and the rain - Sweet Mary Jane. On sunny days we drift along the canyons in my mind With Mary Jane in evergreen I leave my blues behind We meditate on emptiness, she helps me to unwind I smile and laugh in ecstasy as I close my eyes to find - Sweet Mary Jane. * How I love you Mary Jane - for all you’ve given me Thank you, thank you Mary Jane Now I live in daydreams, kaleidoscopes of time Colorful serenity and I am just feeling fine I’m so glad I’ve found her and that she is all mine I spend my hours beside her and she helps me to tow the line - Sweet Mary Jane. Lazy days of walking, sleepy afternoons Night times going nowhere lying here beneath the moon She helps me understand, you know, she keeps my mind in tune But, when at times she leaves me, well, I pray she’ll come back soon - Sweet Mary Jane. * The summer sang a lullaby that conjured autumn rain Each chorus bringing troubled skies that magnify pain I’m drowning in the sweetest lie - can I ever find myself again? Why do the people act so strange, I see them stop and stare? I’m trying to find my Mary Jane but she is no longer there How can I live without her, this burden I can’t bare ‘Cause I’m lying in this lonely road and I know that she don’t care - Sweet Mary Jane

Smile a while, no matter where you go The world will be a brighter place if happiness you show No matter how you feel inside, away up high or low A smile can make the world a place you really want to go. Smile a while, throughout your every day Especially those times when you feel you’ve lost your precious way And the sun has disappeared behind clouds of darkest grey A smile can bring the sun back - a light to show the way! CH: A smile is not hard to do and it brightens up your face Makes you feel like flying free, makes your heart to race But the best thing is that when you smile - everyone smiles too And the greatest gift, when you’re feeling down, is when someone smiles at you! So smile a while, from early when you rise Let that smile play on your lips and burn within your eyes Let everybody see the signs, don’t try to disguise Your smile might seem so small to you but, baby, smiles change lives!

The mist flies over the mountain tops, as the wind blows through the trees I’m a thinking and a wondering - like a man down on his knees But words don’t come so easy as I try to say a prayer For a comfort that will ease me now that you’re not there….. You’re something of a woman, you’re something of a child…. You’re something of the city, you’re something that it wild…… You’re something of a beauty, you’re something of a queen…. Something of a lover and all that is between……

The sun he wakes up, smiles out on a blue sky early morning Tries to thaw the minds of the children of the day My thoughts are just of you there in your bed still sweetly sleeping Curled up in your dreaming - warm woman, far away. I left you early, early, while the sun he still lay sleeping Said goodbye and left you lonely to face the night alone Then missed you every moment thought of coming back to see you Wondering why I’m here without you in this twilight zone. If I could read your mind then I would know just what you’re thinking Your feelings would not hide within the dimples of your smile I would not have to hide myself these feelings I have for you Unsure for a moment, unhappy for a while. I sit here in the quiet, the sweet solitude of morning I long to watch you sleeping, long to have you by my side I search for words to tell you, something crazy like “I Love You” Only heaven knows how many times I think I’ve tried. The sun pours out his life light on a blue sky early morning As I try to thaw my mind and being another day I kiss your lips but you just disappear without a warning Lost in my daydreaming - warm woman, far away.

Club 68 03:15
I'm sorry if I’m rushing but I swear I’ve got a date I met a woman on the corner just outside Club 68 You might say she don’t have breeding, you might say she don’t have class But the way she fills her jeans she’s got a lovely piece of ass My friends all say I’m crazy, they tell me “Dave, beware!” But the girl don’t say she loves me and then leaves me in despair. Looking at her t-shirt it’s a wonder to behold When she holds me to her breast I feel I’m like a two-year old…… She may not be the woman to take home to mom and dad They would not appreciate her and I think that’s really sad If they knew the lengths she went to just to please their perfect son They would understand the reason why I think she’s number one All the leather and the whips she keeps behind her bedroom door Are just a small part of the reason why I cry and beg for more She’s a woman with a passion, she’s a lady of the night All the things that she does to me well I think she’s out of sight !!!!! "Coz, she’s got magic in her fingertips and a few tricks up her sleeve She can get me so that I don’t know how I’m ever going to breathe I guess she knows the Kama Sutra off by heart inside her head Plus a hundred other things we can do - on and off the bed She makes me ache, she makes me scream, she makes me lose my mind She makes me want to touch myself but I am scared that I’ll go blind She could have been an acrobat in any circus in the land Coz she’s double jointed everywhere and she loves to do handstands….. She’s a pretty kinda woman in a funny sort of way Who looks better under lamplight than in the light of day She can treat me like a baby make me feel so much a man I know I’d better leave her but I don’t know if I can. I think of all the things that I could do with what I earn My friends just shake their heads and they say I’ll never learn So I wonder is it destiny, I wonder is it fate That I’m here again and waiting right outside Club 68.
